‘Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania’ by Erik Larson
This book is outstanding. One thing Erik Larson does so well is make history come alive. Putting together the puzzle from many different points of view while making it engaging and learning something in the process. The facts are amazing. This book is a true page turner.
The only thing what would have been nice had a few more pictures of the Lusitania had been posted. Sure there is one but one or two more would have been great. And maybe a link to see the final moments of the ship ever captured on film.
What’s eye opening besides the fact that this could have been a preventable tragedy (just like the titanic) but how much history likes to skip over certain facts. Many of the players are not put into a good light, the British and their Room 40 for example.
In a way this book is making sure that the history, the true history of the Lusitania lives on. And its about time it did.
