I was really excited to read this book. It sounded so good but it turned out to be a big let down.
The biggest issue this book has is how its tells the story. The timeline bounces so many times to the past and back again you almost get whiplash. I was almost ready to pull out a notebook and start making notes so I could remember where what fits. It goes all over the place and you have to try and figure out where it would go. Like an unfun puzzle that made it not a fun read. Now I have read other books who have jumped to the past and they’ve made it work but here, here it does nothing for you. Only slows down the story.
Now don’t get me wrong there were a few moments I enjoyed but sadly they did not last.
Yes ok Kate is a spy but she makes so many mistakes one wonders how she was not caught sooner. I feel shows like ‘chuck’ and ‘burn notice’ have spoiled us because I expected more.
I also could not stand any of the characters. In the end I found I didn’t care about kate, her husband, the two bratty kids or the couple. Not to mention a very eye rolling and awful ending.
A mystery book that puts you to sleep really.
