‘The Porcelain Thief: Searching the Middle Kingdom for Buried China’ by Huan Hsu is a wonderful book to come across.

The basic story is that Hsu’s great-great-grandfather, who had a large collection of porcelain, that was buried in the backyard before the family fled. By talking with his family and wanting to ask his grandmother more about this missing porcelain Huan Hsu moves to china to start his search. The book really is a mix of stories: part memoir, part family history and part Chinese history.
It is a joy to read how he tries to adjusted to life in China. What a culture.

The only big issue that pops up at times are all the names of relatives that one mixes up…a lot. But other then that a good book I am grateful to have dug up.
